Popular DJ Launches Nightclub Early For 'People Who Don't Want To Ruin Their Weekend'

A new club night for people who love to sleep as much as they love to party is coming to Bolton.

Dubbed ‘Fresh as a Daisy’, the event will run from 7pm to 11pm, with DJ John Leather taking over the decks to play four hours of indie anthems. A popular name on the festival circuit with his Tarantino Disco and 80s Movie Disco, John is returning to DJing in his hometown for the first time in five years.

Now based in Warrington, John admitted he was inspired by former BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac, who recently ran a nightclub called ‘Before Midnight’ in London’s Islington district. He said: “She is pioneering something similar in London and as a concept I want to try.

“I think from the way the nights are going, it’s fair to say that the traditional club scene is weaker than ever. Covid has had a role to play and I think at this point, the culture of leaving early is becoming more viable.

“It’s aimed at people who are worried about the weekend, people who don’t want to spoil their weekend, who want to go out and have fun, but also be home early. Leave early, party early and come home for a while. time.”

John initially made a name for himself in Bolton with his indie nights at Kico and Blind Tiger venues, now closed, but DJing has had to take a back seat due to health issues in recent years. He added: “I have a condition called ulcerative colitis that can affect me from time to time with concerts and I’ve had to turn down some festival slots but hopefully I’ll be well enough to get back on the scene.

“It’s been almost five years since I returned to Bolton. I’ve had a lot of success with Kico and Blind Tiger and I feel it’s the right time to give it another go and try to launch another indie night downtown.”

The launch event will be held at RockitV5 in the Vaults of Bolton Market Place. The venue is managed by Rock It Bolton CIC, which recently won the Queen’s Award for Volunteer Service.

John, who is also on the schedule for the Manchester Adored event at the Bowlers Exhibition Center in September, said there was room to turn it into a monthly night “if all goes well”.

Fresh as a Daisy takes place at RockitV5, The Vaults, Bolton Market Place from 7pm to 11pm this Saturday (June 11). Entry is free.
